Exciting times for Little Wings with the whole team recently looking to the long term strategy for the Charity and seeing great potential to help more families as we grow over the coming years. With that in mind, and after an extensive search for the right people we are very pleased to announce two new voluntary board members, who joined the Little Wings board as of the 1st of October.

Gordon has 20 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry encompassing the fields of Treasury, Investment Banking and Advisory firms. He was most recently a Managing Director and Asia Pacific Treasurer for Barclays Bank and prior to this held senior positions with Westpac and KPMG. Gordon is currently based in Sydney and is married with three children.

Mark is the Chief Executive Officer for one of the leading registered Clubs in NSW, the Bankstown District Sports Club, and has accumulated over 23 years’ experience within the organisation.  As CEO, Mark focuses on providing high quality leadership, advice and direction to creatively grow the business.  Mark is suitably qualified with a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Business in Club Management, and is also a Justice of the Peace.  Mark is a family man with two children.

We are very excited about the future working with Gordon and Mark and welcome them to the Little Wings Team.

Regards, Adrian Nisbet, Chairman of the Board

September and October Review

The team at Little Wings have been extremely busy over the last two months attending events, raising awareness, drumming up sponsorship and flying our families to and from treatment.

We have been honoured to attend nine events during the last two months, ranging from awareness exhibitions to formal fundraising dinners. We would like to express our sincere thank you to all of the companies and groups involved - Bankstown City Council, the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Kids' Cancer Project, the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, the Guardian Angel Bikers, the Esquire Strata Group, the Late Mail Postie Bike Riders, Mammoth Projects and Cardiff Bowling Club. Your support and commitment to Little Wings is vital - we would not be flying without you!

During September we officially launched our flight service into John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Newcastle. Our team of staff and volunteers will help ease the stress and burden associated with long distance travel by flying children and their families from the Hunter New England region into Maitland airport and John Hunter Children's Hospital. We would like to thank Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, Sharp Electronics Broadmeadow, Maitland Airport and Hyundai Help for Kids for your support in the Newcastle region, and we look forward to being able to expand our service to assist more children from regional NSW.

Postie Bike Ride

The Late Mail Postie Bike Ride set out from Gulgong on October 16 bound for Mudgee, via Nymagee in the state’s west to make it a 1200-plus kilometre trip. The group of riders spent their week promoting Little Wings and fundraising on our behalf.

On October 23 all of the riders, support crew and families came together for a dinner at Blue Wren Winery to celebrate an amazing achievement. An astonishing $101,677 was raised by this group of guys and we would like to thank the riders, their families, the support crew and all of the people who donated. We sincerely appreciate your support.

Barry Bear Delivery

We recently visited The Children's Hospital at Westmead to deliver the much loved Barry the Parody Bears that were donated to children in need.

We had the giant Barry Bear visiting children along with some NOVA Casanovas, Little Wings staff and volunteers to distribute these Bears and bring a smile to their faces.

On behalf of all of the children thank you to all of the Nova 969 listeners who purchased Barry to donate to the children.

Children and their families who are affected by childhood illness face significant emotional, practical and financial difficulties. Little Wings provides support to rural and regional families in need.
