I hope you have all enjoyed our longer than usual Summer as we begin to move into colder months. Last month in March we celebrated a milestone as we performed the highest number of flights in one month in the history of Little Wings, averaging over a flight a day! In March alone we performed 33 flights, helping 14 families, and transporting 75 passengers from all over NSW. We are glad to be able to help and welcome aboard the new families to the Little Wings service.
With an increase in flights comes an increased need for funding, and our focus these past few months has been on raising much needed funds to provide this vital service for regional families. We have been busy applying for a number of corporate grants and making arrangements to run and attend various events. This includes our Little Wings Golf Day which was held in April. The day was a great success and one which we look forward to holding again next year. We thank all of the sponsors and participants who supported the event.
As always, Cash Housie continues to make a significant contribution to the charity, and in particular we thank all of those children and families who attended our Kids Bingo sessions held during the school holidays at Soldiers Point, Penrith and Bathurst. We had a great attendance, and the kids had a lot of fun, which we look forward to doing again next school holidays.
Another special thanks goes to the Bankstown Sports Little Athletics team. We had the pleasure of meeting some of the children and parents from the Little Athletics team when they came to visit us at the Little Wings hangar last month to present us with a cheque donation from their trivia fundraising night. It was great to be able to show the team the Little Wings planes up close, and even better to have inspired a few of the kids to come back as volunteer pilots.
A trivia night is a fantastic example of a community fundraising event which you could hold to show your support of Little Wings. If you are interested in holding such an event amongst your friends and family or in your local community, let us know, we would be more than happy to help you out in any way we can!
Lastly, we have just returned from a weekend of fun at the Wings Over Illawarra Air Show. We met a lot of people over the two days of the show, including pilots, aviation enthusiasts, families and children. It was great to be able to share with everyone what Little Wings is all about and how we help seriously ill children throughout their treatment. For those that came to visit us, made a donation, purchased merchandise, or came by for a chat, we thank you for your support.
